Karachi—Tuesday was the longest day of the year, as its duration in Peshawar is recorded of 14 hours and 31 minutes. According to Met Office, the duration of the day in Islamabad was 14hours 28 minutes, Lahore 14 hours 17 minutes, Karachi 13 hours 43 minutes and Quetta 14 house 16 minutes.

It dawned at 5:00am in Peshawar and the dusk was at 7:31pm, while in Islamabad the sunrise took place at 4:55am and the sunset at 7:24pm. After July 1, daylight hours will continuously reduce. By September 22, daylight and night hours will level-off. After September 22 onwards, night hours will gradually increase and the days will become shorter.

The solstice, which falls on June 20 or 21 each year, occurs when the Earth’s North Pole is tilted the most toward the sun, and the sun is at its highest point. Solstice comes from the Latin word solstitium, meaning “sol” (the sun) and “stit” (standing).—INP
