Briton dies in Iraqi plane crash

The man, who has not been named, was one of seven who died when the plane's engine caught on fire shortly after taking off from Sulaimaniyah Airport in northern Iraq.

The plane, which had been heading to the Turkish capital of Ankara, had tried to land but crashed in a heavy snowstorm on Friday.

Authorities have blamed the crash on a mechanical failure.

Sulaimaniyah is 160 miles north-east of Baghdad.

A Foreign Office spokesman said they were investigating the reports. She said: "We are aware of the reports and are investigating."
